Eleven performers experience a paratheatre training process with Antero and offer the results in a public performance in this lively docudrama exploring initiatic experience and the creation of rituals that triggered them. The DVD includes a series of candid conversations between Alli and two of the performers who grapple with language in their attempts to come to terms with what happened to them in these rituals."Occasionally our private paratheatre work develops, matures and ripens towards public performance. This happened with the processes leading up to Orphans of Delirium, a four-part ritual story of eleven archetypes vying for domination within the psyche of an actor on an absinthe binge; I see it as a kind of an extreme symbolist ritual."
Despite the way-outness of the material, Alli's style is fluid, thoughtful, and elegant. An intriguing challenge.
At the onset of "Orphans of Delirium," Antero Alli's compelling documentary about his own practices as a director of a troupe of actors engaged in "paratheatrical research," Alli explains this term. His work uses the techniques of theater, but not to put on a play or stage conventional improvisations. Instead, the actors train to access different "energy centers" within the body, and to unleash this energy through vocalizing, through movement, and through language. Absolutely mesmerizing
